IT’S NOT ABOUT ME!
One of the points I dwell on when teaching my class on “ACHIEVERS” is that being others’ centered rather than just on yourself is maybe the biggest key to success! Sales people are always a great example as they understand how sales are made by meeting peoples’ needs. I also use management as an example too; the best managers I have known focus on training, empowering and making their people successful so the organizarion does well.
I found this meme on facebook and show it on the screen during class. It is kind of a modern day version of the Golden Rule:
Other than just for success and the greater good, this principle applies to most facets of our lives. Relationships are built by focusing on the other person, charity, kindness, respect for others are just a few of the values we develop when we focus on others. I believe that lack of this virtue has created most of the problems we face today,
In church last week our pastor’s sermon rang a bell with me. He had a piece on the screen that I think was very poignant in that it has really described the world we live in today. Some think the Bible isn’t timely any more, but this is just one example of how it still shows us how to live. The Bible says love God as you love yourself. Even if you don’t believe in God, you can love others as you love yourself.
People will be lovers of self rather than lovers of God.
• Lovers of money –
• Proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control,
• Not loving good – one commentary – unable to see and savor moral good.
• Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,…
• Having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.
